The outpatient clinic for patients with Turner syndrome at the Martagão Gesteira Institute of Childcare and Pediatrics (IPPMG-UFRJ), under the guidance of Professor Marília Martins Guimarães, organizes meetings on the first Wednesday of even months (February, April, June, August, October, and December) for patients, their families, and interested professionals or students to discuss topics related to the care of patients with the syndrome.
In February, inspired by the commemorative World Rare Disease Day, we addressed issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of people living with rare diseases, including patients with Turner syndrome. We also discussed the history of the Carnival celebration.
At the April meeting, we discussed the French national protocol for the diagnosis and care of patients with Turner syndrome. As usual, we talked about the origin of the Easter celebration.
The meetings occur every 2 months, and the upcoming meetings are already scheduled for June 5th, August 7th, October 2nd, and December 4th, 2024.
The outpatient clinic for children and adolescents with Turner syndrome, established in 1998, operates in the Endocrinology Service of IPPMG/UFRJ on Wednesday mornings. Referrals for patients suspected of having Turner syndrome can be made via the SISREG system. Continuity of care for adult patients with the syndrome is provided at the Endocrinology Service of HUCFF/UFRJ. Research projects related to the care of patients with the syndrome are also conducted at these services.
